My name is Kim, and this is my husband, John. Together with our own Lucky Cats (and quality control inspectors), Frodo and Sister, and our Chief Happiness Officer, Gus the Bernedoodle. Lucky Cat Soap started with a simple idea.
We make soap the way it should be: simple, thoughtful, and meant to be used every day. Each bar is handcrafted in small batches, cut and cured by hand, and finished with enough detail to feel considered, but never precious.
The Lucky Cat Soap Philosophy
At Lucky Cat Soap, I believe something as ordinary as washing your hands or taking a shower can become a small daily ritual, one that feels good, smells amazing and gives you a moment to reconnect with yourself.
Soapmaking is my creative outlet. I love the combination of art, science, nature, and a little unpredictability that comes with every batch. More than anything, I find joy in creating something beautiful and useful and sharing it with others.
Thoughtfully Made, Naturally Inspired
I start with nourishing oils and butters chosen to create a rich, satisfying bar of soap. Shea, cocoa, mango and kokum butters; olive, avocado and other plant oils; tallow; goat milk; aloe and coconut milk all bring their own character to a recipe.
I also love incorporating natural clays and botanicals, not just because they’re beautiful, but because they can contribute to the feel and experience of the finished bar. Kaolin, French green, rhassoul, Brazilian clays, colloidal oatmeal, charcoal, herbs and roots add color, texture and feel.
I enjoy exploring with natural colorants. Indigo, alkanet root, annatto, turmeric, clays and botanical infusions can behave differently as they meet the alkaline environment of fresh soap. Sometimes I know exactly what I’m going to get. Sometimes the soap has other plans. That’s part of what keeps the process interesting.
Tallow & Goat Milk Soap
I enjoy making traditional tallow soaps. Tallow’s fatty-acid profile makes it wonderfully suited to soapmaking, producing a firm, long-lasting bar with a creamy, conditioning lather. It’s an old-fashioned soapmaking ingredient that fits beautifully into a modern handcrafted bar.
Goat milk brings an entirely different experience. Its natural fats and sugars help create a creamy, luxurious lather, while the finished soap has the gentle, comforting feel that makes milk soaps such longtime favorites.
Rather than making medical claims about handmade soap, I prefer to focus on what a thoughtfully formulated bar does best: cleanse effectively while providing a beautiful, enjoyable washing experience.
Scent With a Purpose
Fragrance is where soap becomes especially personal to me.
I use both essential oils and carefully selected fragrance oils that are paraben-free, phthalate-free and cruelty-free. I choose scent not just because something smells good, but because of what it can evoke.
Lavender and patchouli might feel grounding. Citrus can feel bright and energizing. Sandalwood and vanilla can feel warm and comforting. A familiar floral, cup of tea, ocean breeze or old-fashioned fragrance can unexpectedly bring back a place, a person or a memory.
That’s what I want Lucky Cat Soap to be: more than something you use because you need soap. I want you to look forward to choosing your bar, breathing in its fragrance and enjoying that small moment of your day.
Less Waste, More Intention
Lucky Cat Soap is palm-oil free, and I make a conscious effort to minimize plastic wherever practical. I favor simple packaging and materials that allow the soap itself to be the focus.
Handmade soap doesn’t need to be complicated to feel special. Good ingredients, thoughtful formulation, creativity and a little bit of nature can transform an everyday necessity into something you genuinely enjoy using.
Every Lucky Cat bar is an experiment, a creative project and, ultimately, something meant to be shared.
